35 Thereafter, participants were involved in a simple monetary gambling task, in which they were asked to try their best to maximize the total score. The higher the score they earned, the more bonus money they would receive at the end of the experiment. For each trial, participants could select one of two alternatives (―5‖ or ―25‖) to ―gamble‖. The outcome of their choice would then appear on the screen for 1500 milliseconds. If participants get a positive outcome in the current trial (indicated by the ―+‖ symbol), 5 or 25 points (depended on their own choice) would be added to the total score amount; otherwise if they receive a negative outcome (indicated by the ―-‖ symbol), participants would lose 5 or 25 points accordingly.
Participants were asked to rate items on a scale from1 to 5 (1 = very slightly or not at all, 5 = extremely), based on the strength of emotion they were feeling at that moment.
